Types of Groups and Classes

Bones & Balance
Bones & Balance classes are a beginner friendly exercise classes to improve strength, balance, and bone health. Men and women are welcome to join this class.
Ideal participants are those with a desire to engage in preventative health measures and reduce the risk of falls or fractures. Participants may have been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis but this is not a necessary entry requirement.
An intial assessment is required prior to starting Bones & Balance classes to ensure you are safe to work in a class environment and that our team can help you meet your needs and goals. Classes run for up to 60 minutes.

Bones & Beyond
Bones and Beyond classes are a progression from our beginner Bones & Balance classes. Your Exercise Physiologist will indicate if you are a safe candidate for this class. Bones and Beyond classes include heavy resistance training for bone loading, high impact exercise and cardiovascular exercise. Classes run for up to 60 minutes.

Core & Stability
Core and Stability classes are a circuit based clinical pilates class inclusive of mats, reformers, trap table and small apparatus (balls, pilates rings etc). This class is suitable for clients with Pelvic floor safe dysfunction or concerns.
Prior to attending a class, individuals are asked to attend a pre-assessment with an Exercise Physiologist to gain a understanding of your unique history, goals and requirements. Classes run for up to 60 minutes.

Stretch & Release
Stretch and Releases classes focus on gentle stretching, mobility work, and relaxation techniques. The goal is to help improve your flexibility, reduce tension, and calm your mind. These are perfect if you find you need a way to unwind but have difficulty taking the time for yourself. Classes run for 30 minutes.

Hydrotherapy Group
Hydrotherapy group classes are led by our Exercise Physiologists in a warm water pool. Classes combine the same benefits of exercising in water – buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure, temperature, turbulence and resistance – combined with a reduced fee when compared to individual sessions.
You can attend our hydrotherapy sessions after attending an initial assessment in-rooms. To be invited into a group class you must be safe and confident in water and your Exercise Physiologist must believe you are suited to the class environment. Classes run for 30 minutes.

Duo Sessions
Duo sessions are Exercise Physiology sessions between one practitioner and two patients. The additional benefits of these sessions include social interaction whilst exercising, motivation between friends and appointment fee sharing.
All Duo sessions are to be arranged by the patients at a mutually agreed time. Unfortunately Up & Active Exercise Physiology are unable to find you a partner.
Please note: if one of the patients cancels or fails to attend a pre-booked duo session, the remaining party is responsible for a full one-on-one fee.

Semi-Private
Semi-Private classes are designed for clients to complete their individual Exercise Physiologist prescribed exercise programs that have been developed during previous 1:1 sessions. The benefit of these classes include access to our gym and equipment, cost-sharing and shared attention by an Exercise Physiologist. Please note that as this is a group class the instructor will be sharing their time equally between participants. If you require a new or updated program, please book a one-one-one session.
What can I expect from my class or group?
An exercise physiologist is a healthcare professional who gives people information and advice about exercise to help them manage and prevent injuries and chronic conditions. They put together individual exercise programs that are safe effective and appropriate for the person.
Exercise physiologists provide rehabilitation services and work with people who have or are recovering from a range of conditons including athlete program developmemt, patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic pain, depression and cancer.
We are first contact practitioners so you do not need a referral to see our team privately. Health Insurance claiming is available in the clinic via HICAPS. We also service EPC care plan patients, Workcover, CTP, NDIS and DVA clients with the appropriate GP referrals. We work closely with local GPs, surgeons, medical specialists, pain specialists and other allied health providers. We are integrated in the community through our networks with schools, sporting clubs, coaches and leisure centres.
Exercise physiology is delivered in a variety of ways including 1 on 1 sessions, 1 on 2 sessions, small group classes or hydrotherapy, but always starts with a initial assessment to understand your specific needs, set goals and discuss expectations.
Initial Consultation
Your exercise physiologist will spend time understanding your health, presentation, background and individuality. In consultation with you they will make an individualised plan, involving exercise, to help you achieve your goals. This session involves some testing. They will assess your baseline fitness which can be retested as your work through your treatment plan over time.
Joining a session
During your follow up consultations you will work in the gym with your exercise physiologist performing supervised exercises. This helps to keep you on track, adherent to your exercise’s, ensures you are performing the exercises as intended and reduces your injury risk. As you work through your plan your exercise physiologist will progress exercises, adapt them to your needs and reassess your baseline measurements.
As clients become less reliant on the individualised one-on-one supervision you may be invited to attend a joint session with another client or be welcomed into a class. Please speak to your exercise physiologist about these options.
Reassessments
Home exercises are prescribed for most conditions to supplement manual therapy and generate long term benefits of exercise physiology. Adherence to home exercises are the optimal way to improve recovery time, return to your previous level of function and reduce the risk of pain and living with chronic conditions.
